I have a nice PCMCIA modem card. It is a Hayes "Accura V.92" modem. When I plug it in to my laptop, I get errors in /var/log/messages that seem to indicate that I need a file called "GLOBETROTTER.cis". In looking at things, I see that the module "serial_cs.ko" in /lib/modules/<kernel version="">/kernel/drivers/tty/serial/8250 when expanded and run through the strings command has a string of just this file, so I believe that it is the one causing the problem.

I read in a few internet postings that this file might have licensing restrictions, but I have no idea.

Now for the fun part... I have an old laptop that has RedHat 9, with a 2.4 kernel on it, and I put this same PCMCIA card into it, and it functions perfectly. Go figure
