hello, i bought tp link usb wifi adapter ac600 archer t2u but i cant connect to networks - i can see the network but i cant connect

when i contacted the technical support they said that their driver works just to kernel version up to 3 and mine is 4 so it doesnt work, and they said that i should search one online (because linux is an open source system so probably a user developed a driver and etc) so here i am, here, trying to find someone who know if there is even a driver because so far i didnt find anything

and i would really appreciate any help, i really need it, thanks in advance !!

Check this link:

Also in the wiki is the entry for hardware version 1 of the same device (you need to verify your version).

Two github repos from Wiki seem to try to get driver working with kernels up to 4.15 (current Fedora's 4.19). You can try to compile them yourselves, even then they are not guaranteed to work.

If you want a more general advice (you probably don't at this point ;-) ) from my own experience with another Archer device - well, it's much more practical to do your research beforehand and choose an WiFi adapter already supported by Linux kernel. There are very few AC adapters supported at this point, but it's definitely easier to buy a slower but supported one which just works - you plug it in and don't have to worry about drivers.

If kernel doesnt's support you device (as is a case with this one), even if you'll get it working with self-compiled driver you'll have to recompile them after every kernel update. It's doable but can be quite tedious )

thanks for the fast answer !! I downloaded the zip and wrote make clean and make but i got an error

what did i miss ? i really dont know much about this

and i checked it it supports linux and it said that it supports so i just assumed that it supports also the latest version, but turns out that it doesnt

Alas, for WiFi adapters especially you should do more than just check it supports Linux - as you see by now. The best thing to look for is Linux kernel support - and you need to do a bit of research to find such an info (forums, wikis like to one I gave you link to, other locations). Better still - if you can - to test it before you buy it.

As for compilations errors you mention. Usually You have to deduce and install some packages that are needed for compilation. It's not that hard (but not intuitive also). I could try to help if you post error messages here.

Also keep in mind that with such drivers there's no guarantee they'll compile and work even if you do get all the needed packages.
