Why does cinnnamon crash?
I just installed fedora 28 with cinnamon. Everything went fine. I rebooted as asked. The desktop hasn't even finished loading and it says "cinnamon, crashed, you're in fallback mode, do you want to restart cinnamon?". I say yes and it finally loads.
My PC is an i5-2400 at 3.10GHZ with 8GB RAM and 1TB hard drive (not and ssd). Thanks for your help.
I does NOT happen if I install MATE-compiz spin.
Edited the question due to broken formatting.
check your greeter and your video drivers, either of those could call fallback mode. I am thinking it is the video driver, that may not have been upgraded automatically. as to the greeter, I use lightdm with cinnamon and have had no issues at all. Also, are you trying to run in wayland? I do not think cinnamon runs on wayland yet.
If updating system (
dnf update --refresh
) doesn't help, update your question withinxi -Gxxx
output.
