I recently installed a plugin on Firefox called Ghostery - Ad Blocker, and immediately Firefox crashed so that I had to reboot the computer (running Fedora 26). And it does that every time I launch Firefox, and it crashes so fast I don't have the time to even disable the plugin.

I'm quite sure it is the plugin because Chrome doesn't have the same problem and Firefox had it the first time (ever in three years) when I've installed it.

So I was wondering if there was a way to disable (or better remove) the plugin from terminal without the need to launch Firefox with some command or even by deleting the corresponding folder of the plugin. I've already tried to run: dnf remove firefox and then dnf install firefox but the plugin keeps being installed and Firefox keeps crashing. Thanks for your help.

Have a look under $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/XXXXX.default/extensions where XXXXX is an unique string for the default profile. Remove the offending extension. Its name ends with .xpi. Hope it'll works. You should back up $HOME/.mozillafirst: cp -r ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla-bak

In your home directory there is a folder named

Inside that you'll find another folder named with a combination of numbers and letters, like a password. There are contained all settings of firefox. In particular there is the folder named

I think it's self explicative. Rename that folder and firefox will not use extensions anymore.
