We have a board with 2 cpu. Every cpu has a virtual eth0 interface to communicate with the other cpu. We created a ifcfg-eth0 file on both cpu and everything works for a while. Then i see that ifcfg-eth0 on one of the cpu isnmissing. What caused it? How can i investigate/resolve the problem? We use fedora 20 and can't upgrade

Modern linux systems have support for NUMA, so why use this virtual hardware at all?

Have you had a look at your syslog? Kernel "devices" usually do not go away without some noise to syslog or dmesg.

Then please do not ever connect the system to any network again. Running an operating system which has not seen any security update in 3 years is highly irresponsible as it endangers all data on it and all other computers on all (directly or indirectly) connected networks. There probably are a few hundred unfixed CVEs on that computer. Whoever planned a non-upgradeable Fedora system is irresponsible too.
