Fedora 28, I can login with the root password, but cannot $ su - root with the same password

Hi All,

I am encountering two issues with my Fedora 28: 1- The root PW working to log in as root, but the same PW doesn't work for $ su - root

2- I login as myself and I have wireless internet. I login as root and I don't

Welcome to ask.fedora. Generally, if you need a complete root environment you'd use su - by itself as root is implied. Have you tried it that way?

Did su work since installing F28? Could there be an alias or bad path at work? What does which su say? (It should say /usr/bin/su.)

I use su -, provide root's password and you will have your root shell. It's the same as: su -l = su --login or even su - root.

There is also su which assumes root and prompts for the password.

I use sudo -i which will make any user in group wheel or in sudoers, effectively root. It's not identical but for most things it's root without having to have root logins persistently enabled.
