hello everyone im trying to update wireshark-qt and i cant seem to figure out why dnf is giving this error mesg

is wireshark going to work properly? what is this? what was the script supposed to do in this update? any ideas? thanks

The wireshark works fine even with this problem.

This problem has existed for quite a while, and is a result of upgrading through several fedora versions. What fixed it for me was:

  • uninstall all wireshark packages
  • remove the file /var/lib/alternatives/wireshark
  • remove the symbolic link /etc/alternatives/wireshark
  • reinstall the wireshark packages.

I suspect that the file /var/lib/alternatives/wireshark was created many releases ago and its contents were no longer compatible with the current wireshark packages.
