SoundTouch 2.0.0-3.fc27 holding up updates

For several days now my system has been trying to update to SoundTouch 2.0.0-3.fc27 and has been unable to do so because of dependency issues. The system recommends to use --best and --allowerasing to correct dependencies. However when you use --best --allowerasing the system wants to remove 150 packages, including libreoffice, gnome-shell, gnome-shell-extensions, evolution, eclipse and gnucash just to name a few that are important to me and my installation. Is there any hope of being able to update without removing all these packages? It will be about like doing a fresh install and setting up everything again.

Hope that not the answer!!

Stupidly I did what the system recommends. And now my system is basically unusable.

I can no longer start X, but I don't know whether it is because of something --best --allow-erasing deleted or whether the nVidia driver doesn't work with the latest kernel. And I can't find 4.16 kernels to try so my system is dead while I cruise the net in vain looking for somebody with similar symptoms who actually fixed it. Lots of reports of black screens with latest kernels on

So maybe it's two separate problems that happened at the same time. Regardless, this really sucks. My Fedora setup is now unusable, I can't get to email for 3 days.
