When ever I try and install software using the SOFTWARE icon in Fedora 28, it is always returning with the error.."Failed as ** is already installed." It will be a library of some sort......... This is a FRESH install that deleted everything on the partition that the previous Fedora was on so it is not already installed... I had this problem previously in F22 and I have followed the advice given there to do dnf updates etc....but this has not changed the situation. I can install some software via Terminal so it is the SOFTWARE package that seems to be the issue.. I have enabled RPM's, I have done updates, I have enable 3rd party repos etc etc but still it failed

Any help is gratefully accepted as I am having no end of issues..... Thanks in advance

  1. sudo rm /var/lib/PackageKit/*.db
  2. sudo systemctl restart packagekit.service

Can you show us the output of a package you are trying to install. Please use

pkcon install package and then rpm -qa | grep package

For most/all of your comments you have not posted the command you and the output. For example: libopenraw-0.1.3-1.fc28.x8664 Decode camera RAW files libspiro-20150131-7.fc28.x8664 Library to simplify the drawing of beautiful curves libwmf- Windows MetaFile Library pygobject2-2.28.7-2.fc28.x8664 Python 2 bindings for GObject pygtk2-2.24.0-21.fc28.x8664 Python bindings for GTK+ python2-cairo-1.16.3-1.fc28.x8664 Python 2 bindings for the cairo library python2-xpyb-1.3.1-11.fc28.x8664 Python bindings to XCB zlib-1.2.11-8.fc28.x8664 The compression and decompression library.... I cant, see what you ran, so its difficult to see what is happening.

What happens when you try to update your system. A simple dnf update...

rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest should show if you have some inconsistencies

This is NOT an Answer by the way so not to sure why you posted it as one...Anyway...ALL of the output listed above is from the single command that is listed up there......the command being " pkcon install gimp " - As the poutout shows such a mess and strange links, I have actualyl done a fresh install again...and hopefully this issues has been solved.. I shall know with in a few hours

After hours of trying to fix it etc I decided to reinstall and thankfully, so far, everything seems to work and I expect it will continue to do so....I can only assume there was a "ghost" of a previous install on my other harddisk that must have linked across tot he new install OR it just got screwed during compile...Anyway, Thanks and CLOSED
