I'm using Fedora 28 on Sony Vaio SVE1513BYNB, whenever I try to change the background or screen saver, the system gets hang. It happens when I try to set the images from picture option. Has anyone faced this, or anyone knows how to solve it.

Thank you.

I don't know the answer to your question but I think it may be scanning or even thumbnailing a large amount of data in ~/Pictures Does it come alive after?

As florian said, there is likely a lot of files in your ~/Pictures that it might be going through and indexing. There also may be images of extremely high resolution (8K+) that might be bogging your system down.

Try clearing your ~/Pictures folder by moving all the contents in it to a backup folder.

mkdir ~/picback && mv ~/Pictures/* ~/picback

You shouldn't have that issue anymore. If this is a resolution issue, I'm afraid you will have to delete it and store it in a lower resolution.

Hope that helps.
