Suspending laptop after closing the lid not working

I'm trying to suspend my laptop when its lid is closed. What I've tried:

  1. In /etc/systemd/logind.conf I uncommented and modified lines HandleLidSwitch=suspend HandleLidSwitchDocked=suspend

  2. Added to grub cmd line resume=/dev/dm-1

  3. In gnome tweaks setting "suspend when close lid" was set to true

After applying them suspending still doesn't work.

Not sure if that gives you any clues, but I had the opposite problem: I want my laptop to run when the lid is closed. I set HandleLidSwitch=ignore; strangely, the Gnome tweak is currently set to ON.

Did you check if the journal contains any lid-related messages? sudo journalctl --boot | grep -i [^a]lid (if I grep for "lid" only, I get all messages that contain the word "invalid").

Other suggestion: As per the logind.conf man page, perhaps HandleLidSwitchExternalPower=suspend helps.
