After a clean in stall of Fedora 28, I have noticed Random lock ups and occasionally forced reboots Thinking this maybe a Graphical thing, I checked to see what it had installed by default and found it listed as NVA3 which was reported as having problems way back in 2010 So, I did what I would normally do on a clean install in console as su dnf install akmod-nvidia-340xx "kernel-devel-uname-r == $(uname -r)"

only to get the response

dnf install akmod-nvidia-340xx "kernel-devel-uname-r == $(uname -r)" Last metadata expiration check: 1:58:46 ago on Fri 01 Jun 2018 11:01:00 AM CEST. No match for argument: akmod-nvidia-340xx Error: Unable to find a match

Please help as this is doing me in. It has taken me 2 goes just to get this question entered

Thanks in advance

what model card? might try proprietary with dkms to allow it to update when kernel changes. Click here to see my setup instructions for installing proprietary.

follow the steps in the link I posted in that comment, I updated the original post, to include the steps needed for a fresh install. the latest proprietary driver, from that download link, 396.24 supports your card.

Sadly, what you posted does NOT work..no only is the driver the wrong one but you did not expain the need to change the file to an executable and t o run it in a command window, Not having a go at you, so please take this the right way......and now, having figureed all that out, I am now being told the install cannot contiue as X is running and I have crashed out nu,merous times trying to stop it...Not having a good time here and may well go back to Fedora 27
