F28 install requires EFI partition. I want to keep my multi-boot grub.

I have a multi-boot grub setup with Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Fedora 27, Mint 18. (this is for testing software on different Linux flavors) I want to upgrade F27 to F28, using the same partition as now. F28 installer insists on having an EFI partition for boot loader. How can I get around this? Is there a way to upgrade to F28 from within F27?

Sounds a like case for virtualization. You can run all those Linux flavors at the same time. No reboot necessary, and so on.

If you boot the install media in UEFI mode, the installer needs an EFI file system. If you boot it in classic mode, that it dies not need an EFI file system.

You can do it by three methods:--

Method 1--- Through command line,

Step1- Update software and back up your system---

         sudo dnf upgrade --refresh

Step2- Install the DNF plugin

         sudo dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade

Step3- Start the update with DNF

        sudo dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=28

Step4- Reboot and upgrade

        sudo dnf system-upgrade reboot

Method 2--- Through Gnome software app in fedora Choose the Updates tab in GNOME Software and you should see a window in which it ask for ugrade fedora 27 to 28 .choose it .

Method 3-- Manually download fedora 28 iso image from website n use fedora media writer to extract the will create files of fedora 28 with uefi support.

The issue with ur system is that u might not be using fedora media writer to extract the image, other than this ,the other extracter uses legacy mode file system,so u r unable to boot it....if u select legacy mode in bios menu u can run fedora 28,but u wont be able run other to use all os u need to extract the image of fedora 28 iso with fedora media writer which is avaliable in official website of fedora.1--download the image and extract with fedora media writer. 2--load the files in usb and connect it and restart the system and select the pendrive in boot menu and run it. 3-- now delete the old fedora 27 files system such as the swap /partition,boot etc....and load the new 28...

hope it helps...

Thanks for the help.

Method 2 (Gnome Software) offered to upgrade to F28 today. This worked fine. Yesterday this option was not offered - don't know why - perhaps because I was missing the latest F27 updates?

Method 3 is complex and requires specialist knowledge - not good. Better would be if the Fedora installer allowed bypass of grub install.
