Hi, I'd like to upgrade my desktop PC a tiny bit (to play FlightGear 2017) and replace my Nvidia Quadro 410 (release 2012, 512 MB VRAM, 192 CUDA cores) with something more recent and more VRAM.

My idea is to go with an inexpensive Geforce GT1030. Does anyone around here have this model? How well does nouveau handle it? (I prefer not to install nvidia drivers).

Here is some information I found online (like here phoronix), though I am interested in any updates.

Anyone with any suggestions on an AMD Radeon equivalent? Many thanks.

The best equivalent is the rx 550, though the 1030 is a little bit more powerful.

Thanks for the information! I guess the RX550 is beyond what I'd like to spend - will check again. That RX550 seems to be hard to get for the original price. Maybe the 2 GB version is too old (not in stock anymore).

this one costs 100$ on newegg, see if you're interested.

That one is affordable. What I don't like about it is the fact that it is half height (when not required in my case), which makes them use two small fans. I expect this card to be relatively noisy.
