I can't seem to get this graphics card to work and I'm running out of ideas.

I'm trying to upgrade my GPU from the HD 5450 850M 1GB DDR3 to a Radeon RX 460 2GT LP but when I swapped them out the monitor never woke up.

I tried putting both GPUs in, each with a monitor and after about 5 minutes they both turned on; the RX 460's display looked fine, but the HD 5450's display was all jacked up.

Then I switched back to the 5450 and tried installing AMD's proprietary Catalyst driver following the instructions on their website; but then after switching back to the 460 and powering up, the display remained dead. Then, after a flash of inspiration I tried sshing in using my android. Result: no rout to host. So maybe the system isn't booting all the way with the new card?

Then I found an old reddit post where a user claimed that AMD's proprietary driver isn't compatible with Fedora. So, that would explain why the fix didn't take but not why the system doesn't work with the built in drivers or even seem to boot all the way.

Thanks in advance for any help!

OS: Fedora 27

Motherboard: ASUS Prime X370-PRO

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600

I found the answer! I just had to remove the Catalyst driver, install "xorg-x11-drv-amdgpu" and reboot.

The Catalyst drivers are obsolete. AMD have switched to only the open-source drivers now. Make sure you clear out any remains from installing the Catalyst driver.

Are both cards PCIe? Does the BIOS recognize therm? Which card do you see the BIOS boot screen and Fedora boot on?
