HI all,

My system undergoes a very strange situation: I can login through Gnome, but cannot do so through MATE, Gnome Classic or Gnome Xorg. I am sure there is not any problem with my username or account, but i do not know where to look to fix this issue. Can anyone kindly suggest how should I address this issue? Thanks!

Could you please provide more details on how you are trying to login and what happens?

It might be helpful to review the log data. I’m guessing that you installed first with Gnome and then added MATE later. The logs might throw some errors from gdm that would give some insight.

I have found the cause of the issue. It's because of an installation of NVIDIA driver. I am using a GeForce 210 video card and installed a wrong driver. After completely removing NVIDIA driver it's working again. Later, I installed MATE again and under MATE environment installed NVIDIA driver it's running okay now! Thanks for the input though.

As mentioned in my comment above, I solve this issue by re-installing the NVIDIA driver.

Some further note regarding this issue:

I am using Fedora 27 and have an AMD 6 core CPU with NVIDIA GeForce 210 video card. I installed NVIDIA driver 340xx through the RPM Fusion repository and it did not work well. However, using the method as outlined here ( ) it's working okay. They key for my case is to download a patched version of 340 driver.
