Why does Fedora 27 ship with such an old version of Singularity?

It comes with 2.2. Version 2.4 is out there and has important new features.

It ships with v 2.2 because Fedora 27 was long in Freeze stage (even Beta released) when v2.4 was released upstream. So, this kind of update would be untypical.

However, you can use bugzilla to request a version bump for singularity in Fedora 27. (Here is an example for such request.)

The request will be assigned to the package maintainer.

In the meantime, you can get singularity 2.4.2 from COPR: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/cop...

dnf copr search singularity will help you quickly find relevant copr.
