Problem with using rdesktop (installed from source).

asked 2017-12-10 11:45:39 -0500

My Windows: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

My Fedora: Fedora 25 64bit on VirtualBox

Both of them use GUI.

I'm trying to connect to my windows machine, from my Fedora 25 from virtual machine. I did everything this guide says:

with few exceptions:

1.I had to change the ssl.c file from rdesktop source catalog to look like this :

because otherwise it wouldn't work with my openssl version 1.1.0.g .

  1. I modfied ./configure to look like this: (i added prefix)

    ./configure --prefix/usr/local --disable-credssp --disable-smartcard

The thing is when i'm trying to use rdesktop specyfing ip to my windows or hostname using one of these commands:

rdesktop -u MyWindowsUserName MyWindowsIp

rdesktop -u MyWindowsUserName MyWindowsHostName

I get the messages:

Autoselected keyboard map eng

No protocol specified

ERROR: Failed to open display: :0

And nothing happens then.

I tried creating password for my Windows user, and adding port 3389 to my windows firewall but it didn't help and i still get the same messages.

Are you trying to run it as root?

You need to start Gnome as Xorg session, not Wayland.

Thanks that worked i didn't have such option in my login menu so i uncommented the line WaylandEnable=false in the config file custom.conf in /etc/gdm and it work flawless now!

That works too - it's a more permanent solution. What do you mean by you don't have that option? After clicking or typing your username? Are you using GDM ?
