Hi All,

I am in the thinking phase of my upcoming upgrade from Scientific Linux 7.4 (RHEL clone, based on CentOS). My qemu-kvm virtual machines are running under a really, rally out dated defunct version of qemu-kvm (1.5.3).

Paranoid question: will my VM run under Fedora's version of qemu-kvm (2.9.x) or will I need to re-create them?

Many thanks, -T

Have a look here: CentOS qemu-kvm

It seems new features/bug fixes are regularly backported to qemu-1.5.3. Also I don't think the qcow2 disk format has changed.

Thank you. I haven't seen an update in a while. I also do not know what the RHEL kvm maintainers choose to back port as there are a lot of issues that drive me nuts, especially with USB ports, that have been fixed in Fedora. I think they mainly only fix security issues, not usability/performance issues, but I am only guessing.
