How do I build a RPM from a tarball I download from GIT?

Would someone point me to a nice set of directions on how to build a RPM from a tarball I download from GIT? (Google hits just confuse me.)

As ever I repeat in similar questions... If you use mock, you can avoid install unnecessary packages or broke your system...

Check you have rpm-build installed on your system or not
