Screen freezing after login on a fresh installed Fedora

small backstory: I was using Ubuntu some time ago but hated Unity and switched to Linux Mint and now that Ubuntu 17.10 came with Gnome I wanted to try it out again, but it's still buggy as hell, so I had the choice between switching to Mint again or try sth. else and since I already used Fedora in the past I wanted to give that a try as well. So, here's my SSD configuration currently

Total: 250 GB SSD
220 GB -> Windows 10
30 GB -> Linux partition

This is how I always had it, since I use Linux only for work and Windows for gaming, so I wanted to keep it that way and selected the SSD when installing the project. It was no problem installing it, when I boot my computer I can switch between Fedora and Windows, both start the respectitive operating systems

But now to my problem. As soon as I log in, the screen freezes, I can't move my mouse (dunno if I can press any key-comb) and the only option I have is to reboot my system and boot into Windows. I can't use Fedora right now.

It's not that the whole computer freezes, because I still can press caps lock on my keyboard and the light displaying the active state of caps turns on.

Any idea? Thanks

Might be a GPU driver issue, what's your GPU?

PS There's also Fedora spin with Mint's Cinnamon.

It's an Nvidia 780 GTX

Hey, tested it and it worked. Do you want to make this an answer so I can accept this? Thank you very much.

Nvidia 780 GTX should work well on nouveau (open-source driver).

Firstly update your system: on login screen press Ctrl+Alt+F2, login as root and dnf update --refresh. Reboot. If you still can't login, on login screen click on gear icon and choose 'Gnome on XOrg'.

PS There's also Fedora spin with Mint's Cinnamon.

PPS If updates were enough to fix your issue, there are Live-Respins (where I linked Cinnamon from). Those are images with incorporated latest stable updates, so many issues are fixed and there are fewer updates to install.

The difference between the spins is simply the desktop environment, right?

Yes, desktop environment, and thus some applications installed by default are also different.
