Hi all, This problem has been a huge annoyance in my fedora experience. Other than that, I love using fedora17. Samba performance is really very slow with transfer rates of only 5-50kb/s. It is not the network since ssh gives up to 5Mb/s data transfer rates. I disabled selinux, firewalld, iptables, to no avail. I have made no changes in smb.conf except adding my shares. I simply cannot get rid of this very annoying problem. Any ideas?

You could not reach higher speed with SMB/Cifs, this problem exists by design. You can play a little bit with packet sizes but not so much.
