So I set up Gnome to share files between my 2 computers (settings > sharing > File Sharing on). When I try to copy large amounts of data from one device to another, the process fails. Watching network traffic in System Monitor I see the transfer rate suddenly drop to 0, and never restart. Ideas? Is this system just not rigorous enough for large transfers? 1000s of files, several gigabytes in size?

On the server side, httpd is running and it is very unlikely that it'll have any problems with that. BTW, it is probably helpful to see if any logs will appear in system (journalctl -lf) or session (journalctl -lf --user) logs.

finally got around to trying setting "net.ipv4.tcpsack=0" as mentioned in one of the linked articles. Didn't help with machine to machine transfers, they still failed as before. But it did help with machine to cloud drive transfers, (Using WD MyCloud device. It still failed, but not until 70-80 gigabytes were transferred, Before setting "net.ipv4.tcpsack=0" failure would occur when only a few gigabytes were transfered. I was able to break my payload into 20-30 gB chunks, transfer each, job done,
