I was able to create virtual guests with macvtap using virt-manager. It works great.

I would like to create the same using virt-install. But I am not able to google any information regarding --network parameters. I tried various combinations like:

virt-install ... --network bridge:macvtap ...
virt-install ... --network bridge:macvtapX ...
virt-install ... --network nic=macvtap ...

I am not able to get it working. What is the "magic" parameter that starts up a guest with macvtap for me?

Looks like noone knows the answer here. Consider asking in the Fedora virtualization list

This was not supported before Fedora 20, now it is. See

Basically you use something like:

--network type=direct,source=eth0,model=virtio

If you are using fedora >=20, have a look at "man virt-install"
