Is there any place I can download the chrome ISO for Linux without being asked to pay money for a membership to a download service? Even the Google links take me to a pay per download site.

Here you go http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/ "Chromium builds by Hexxeh" or try http://getchrome.eu/download.php (If you're in the US use the mirror to download then scroll to the bottom and use the "Free Account" option)

I'm not sure what are you talking about but according to google results for phrase "chrome ISO for Linux" you might be thinking of Chrome OS Linux. Anyway the solution should be very similar. You don't need to pay for download on those sites. You just need to choose free (priceless) option and wait certain time (one minute) before the link appears. You can also use torrent file. If you don't see the link you can use CTRL+F to find it.
