Screen shots aren't showing up on my filesystem. How to configure?

I'm trying to take a screenshot through the "Screenshot" application and I'm not getting the save dialog. Basically, this article describes exactly what I'm doing except the save dialog doesn't show up. All of the printscreen shortcuts don't seem to work either.

I am missing this save dialog

Any ideas what issue I might be facing? I've looked pretty extensively for a new png file:

find -maxdepth 3 -name '*.png' -exec stat --format='%Y %n' {} \; 2>&1 |sort -n |tail
edit retag flag offensive close merge delete

If you use the keyboard shortcuts like shift+ptrsc they will be saved on the Pictures folder right away, if you have a different language than English, the folder and screenshots files name may change depending own your language, for example on my case file are named "Captura de Pantalla de 2017-06-30 21-20-11.png" Hope this give you an idea. If you call the screenshot program you will get the save screen options. Good Luck.

oddly, gnome-screenshot from the command line works. so I can sleep 3; gnome-screenshot; still would really like to know why the app is failing though.

I think it was not failing, simple it is setup to save by default on the Pictures folder when you use the short cuts.

@aeperezt it was definitely failing. as you can see from the bash command at the end of my question, I was searching comprehensively through folders for pngs that could have been written anywhere.
