I have a couple of IDEs installed and instead of having 15 icons on my panel I would like to group apps into folders that perform similar functions.

I searched extensions.gnome but could not find a solution.

Please assist :)

It seems you want a old style drawer, but it disappeared for ever.

I don't use Gnome, but this should work just as well for you as it does in Xfce. Right-click on the panel and select Panel->Add New Items. From the list of items, select Launcher. Once that's done, right-click on the new Launcher, and add all of the apps to the launcher, one by one. If you want to sort your apps by category, use more than one launcher. Each of these launchers will have a little arrow by it that brings up a menu, allowing you to use whichever app is appropriate. Then, once you've tested all of the launchers, you can remove the other icons and tidy up.

Hi Thanks for the reply, unfortunately one cannot right click on the panel.

As I wrote above, "I don't use Gnome." Maybe somebody who does can tell you how to add launchers to the panel.

Maybe, you want to try cairo-dock application? Or, you may group your IDEs into one folder using this wiki-page:
