I copy-pasted a file on my usb drive but it crashed during the process. Then I was unable to eject my usb drive. I pulled it out. Now my computer doesn't recognize it anymore and when I try to format it, it says that the device is busy.

What can I do to just format it ?

thanks for the help

If it say the device is busy means that you have a process using the folder where the device was mounted, since the copy crash you need to figured out the process and killed. It can also be that you are inside the folder where you mount the device open on the terminal or nautilus. You could close the session and login back again or reboot. Try this lsof | grep /media/whatever replace /media/whatever for the folder where the media was mounted on the return line should be the process id you need to kill to liberate the process and get access to the usb drive.
