If you get stuck on a grey screen after login into your account via gnome, the gnome session got corrupted on disk. Happens from time to time :(

Solution: (simple)

Login is root add a new user move your programms and datafiles over to the new user (move the needed config files for your programms too! mostlikely they are in hidden directories like .mozilla )

Solution: (advanced)

Login as root remove all gnome session data thats in .local/gnome* and .config/gnome*

You will loose some parts of your desktop environment, but you can reinstall it afterwards you may loose some configurations made via gnome tools, buts thats unlikly.

You should be able to relogin now.

Don't forget to back your data up, before you do this.
