Assuming you are using gnome, first you need to install gnome tweak tool by the following command:

sudo yum install gnome-tweak-tool

Open gnome tweak tool and in the Desktop tab, turn on Icons on Desktop. Finally copy the desktop file of applications you like from /usr/share/applications to your desktop. ;)
