The console font should be adjustable either by setting the FONT variable in /etc/vconsole.conf or vconsole.font in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub. Since none of them seem to work at the moment you can add the following to your bashrc as a temporary workaround:

# Change font when on a TTY
if [ $TERM = linux ]; then
    setfont Lat2-Terminus16

Replace Lat2-Terminus16 with your font of choice.
