COMMENT: //I don't know the optimal one Next within that space .e.g /opt run the following command at the terminal window pane: tar -xvf ~/Downloads/scilab-6.0.1.bin.linux-x86_64.tar.gz COMMENT: //the above presumes you downloaded scilab-6.0.1.bin.linux-x86_64.tar.gz to the downloads folder. Now by going to scilab-6.0.1 i.e./e.g. /opt/scilab-6.0.1 or /usr/scilab-6.0.1 or etc. you can either change to the "bin" folder and run the following command: ./scilab or from the scilab-6.0.1 folder run the following command: ./bin/scilab Scilab will run without crashing out but the image processing toolboxes won't load correctly in Fedora 29 but they do in e.g. Ubuntu 18.04
