2014-04-06 04:59:58 -0600 asked a question Setting permanent PATH

Hello, i was trying to add a specific path to the PATH enviroment variable. I read some answers about this, but didnt succeed. Right now, although the file "/etc/profiles" contains the desired path, when i type:

# echo $PATH

i don't see it. i was looking to add it to the files "/etc/profile" and "/etc/bashrc" as well, but didnt find where.

Please help, Oded

2014-04-05 15:12:27 -0600 commented answer Trying to install virtualbox or vmware - Fedora 20

Hello, i followed the instructions but got an error when compiling: [root@machine yum.repos.d]# /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules [ OK ] Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules [FAILED] (Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong)

when looking at the log file, i get: Makefile:183: * Error: unable to find the sources of your current Linux kernel. Specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run Make again. Stop.</directory>

I tried to run virtualbox anyway, and got: [root@machine yum.repos.d]# virtualbox WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module available for the current kernel (3.13.8-200.fc20.x86_64) or it failed to load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by

       sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

     You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.

2014-03-09 17:03:00 -0600 commented answer compiling using g++

So, apperantly Mr. skytux was partly right. It doesn't matter if i write "prog" or "prog.exe", but adding ./ before "prog" solved the problem. I realy wonder why... what does ./ means? i mean, i was in the right folder that contained the file prog.exe...

2014-03-09 01:33:32 -0600 answered a question compiling using g++

Of course i tried that too, neigher works. Did i have to write "./prog.exe"? Writing "prog.exe" is not enough? Thanks again

2014-03-06 05:34:24 -0600 asked a question compiling using g++

After installing gcc and gcc-c++ using yum, I tried to compile some extremely simple c++ programs, those of the kind that print "hello".

  1. I used g++ -c prog.o prog.cpp and retrived the prog.o file without any problems
  2. I used g++ -o prog.exe prog.o and retrived the prog.exe file without any problems

BUT, when i tried to run the program in the terminal by writing prog, I get

bash: prog: command not found...

does anyone knows why?? I've been trying to do that for some hours now...
