in this moment, it seems that the gdm was somehow fixed, it is working fine right now. [rich1974@localhost ~]$ rpm -q gdm gdm-3.14.1-2.fc21.i686 [rich1974@localhost ~]$ uname -r 3.17.8-300.fc21.i686 [rich1974@localhost ~]$ rich1974 (Jan 25 '15)

I mean, i don't want to begin that tiring discussion about free-as-in-freedom-discussion again, but speak for yourself. I contribute to Fedora along time now and i do support free as in no charge aswell. Suit yourself.

@aeperezt maybe you should tell that to Red Hat :P

What does 'dnf list installed' say? And does 'pkcon repair' solve it maybe?

2016-03-06 10:08:42 -0600 commented question Problems with VirtualBox 5.0 on Fedora 23 [Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)]

First, Oracle VirtualBox for linux is free as in 'you don't have to pay for it' (define free :/). Second, it works like a charm on Fedora 23 - kernel 4.4.3-300.fc23.x86_64 (DKMS installed), like it did install and work for 99% of the time the last 4 years. VirtualBox always works for upstream distros in my experiences (VB-xx-F14 even worked on F20), so no problem Oracle repo offering a F22 version. Don't forget to get and install the extention pack found here. Install after VB-rpm by double clicking on it when downloaded, root passwd will be asked.

2014-04-18 02:38:02 -0600 answered a question How do I disable user list in GDM

Hide all users

execute:

sudo gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory --type Boolean --set /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_user_list True

it's all over the net and works, latest distro test: Fedora 20

2014-04-15 11:58:40 -0600 answered a question Fedora 20: Strange behaving gdm initial login screen only after boot

Appeared that the absence of a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file caused this behavior.

Created one (as root in terminal) with X :1 -configure ; ignored the error messages and copied the resulting xorg.conf.new as xorg.conf to /etc/X11/

Login screen after (re)boot is fine now

edit:

I noticed that the llvmpipe driver is used now, which makes the compu very slow. When the radeon driver is loaded, the problem still exists.

The card is a ATI Radeon X1270.

I can't understand why the initial boot login screen is flickering and the returning login screen after session logout isn't. The latter only begins to flicker when Ii close the lid (suspend?) and open it again.

have to live with it, i guess...

edit edit:

switching to lightdm ( # yum install lightdm lightdm-gtk; systemctl disable gdm.service; systemctl enable lightdm.service ) did the trick. Beautiful clear after-boot-login-screen. After login to Gnome, no screen issues.

2014-04-15 10:15:37 -0600 asked a question Fedora 20: Strange behaving gdm initial login screen only after boot

Hi all,

Rather peculiar problem here: after booting my login screen is behaving very strangely (flickering, distortions). I can login (clicking 'somewhere at the righ place'), and my session screen is very clear.

When I logout to gdm login screen, it is as it should be: very clear.

So only the first time after (re)boot it's a mess.

2013-10-14 02:28:54 -0600 answered a question FedUp Fedora 17 to 19 i386 Virtualbox guest gdm issue

Apparently the VB-Guest kernel modules were not created after upgrade.

My solution was editing xorg.conf by setting driver to 'vesa', restarting gdm (systemctl restart gdm.service), logging in and reinstalling the guest additions.

Worked like a charm.

2013-10-14 02:21:57 -0600 answered a question Fedora 18 nautilus file sorting issue

This question is still open for Fedora 19.

It is a very, very annoying regression of 'Files'/Nautilus.

Any user -when sorting on file type- wants to see the files with the same extentions grouped together (tars grouped, zips grouped), not the files in the same meta group (compressed files grouped).

I am searching, but not found a solution yet.

2013-09-11 11:48:08 -0600 asked a question FedUp Fedora 17 to 19 i386 Virtualbox guest gdm issue

I have upgraded an F17 VB guest, F17 all updated, F17 gnome in fall-back mode (of course), fedup-cli and its log no error messages, to F19.

All went well, boots with no errors, only GDM wont start. Going to login at console (Hostkey+F2,3,4,5 or 6) and log as root, telinit 3 and back to telinit 5 (which would cure GDM issues 99%) doesn't work.

Stuck at full fedora logo.

any suggestions?
