En Fedora 25 wayland es el display server por default. Trata de arrancar tu sesión con X.org y ve si Gedit sigue comportándose mal.

• Otra opción es arrancar gedir desde la terminal e intentar copiar/pegar a ver qué error saca en la consola.

I had the same problem. Installed chrome-gnome-shell, restarted gnome and that fixed it.

Para poder reproducir mp3 en Fedora con RhytmBox y Totem se tienen que instalar los codecs ugly de GStreamer.

Es posible hacerlo manualmente buscando los paquetes restantes, pero la manera más rápida y cómoda de instalar los paquetes faltantes es usando Fedy.

Tendras que abrir una consola y pegar el comando que te muestran en la página.

Una vez que Fedy haya sido instalado hay que arrancarlo. En la lista de Apps, selecciona "Multimedia Codecs"

Despues de instalar los codecs prueba a reproducir alguno de tus archivos mp3.

For the last month I have not been able to upgrade my F16 installation. Every time I try to do an update, yum fails with the following error:

I also tried to remove nss-softokn-freebl and reinstall it later, but yum wants to remove half of my distribution, which I wouldn't do.

Any hint on how to fix this issue?

I have F16 installed on a Acer Aspire S3. Wifi (Atheros AR9485) was working fine until Kernel 3.2.2 came in upgrades. Now, wireless is detected and Access Points listed, but it will never authenticate. If I reboot with Kernel 3.2.1 the wireless works again.

How can I fix it again?

Edit: latest update for Linux 3.2.3 does not fix this.

Edit: It's working again with Kernel 3.2.5-3 and upper versions.

Hello. I've been using Fedora for quite a few months now. Before that, I was a Debian/Ubuntu user. I'm trying to understand how repositories work in Fedora.

In a recently installed F16 I have 2 repos listed:

• Fedora 16 - i386
• Fedora 16 Updates - i386

Is there such thing like Debian's Contrib or Non-free repos in Fedora?

If somebody installs something from a third party repo like rpmfusion, will the rpmfusion packages override those from Fedora official repos?

I have an Acer S3. It has a card reader and It seems I can make it work by enabling the rts5139 module.

Right now, modprobe rts5139 gives an error. The module is not present. But a search in my hard drive reveals that there's a Makefile in some directory with that name:

It's been several years since I last compiled a kernel. What are these "staging" drivers?

How do I enable one of them?

I finally got it to work.

The problem is that during upgrade the synaptics driver for X11 didn't get upgraded and a stale version of it remained installed. I had to look into var/log/Xorg.0.log to find that the synaptics module wasn't loading because of ABI incompatibilities.

The issue got fixed after issuing the following command:

sudo yum distribution-synchronization --disablepresto

This is one of the final steps of the Fedup Upgrade guide.

I updated to F18 using fedup. The touchpad stopped working at all and I don't see any option in "Gnome Settings/Mouse and touchpad" that would enable it again.

Is that a bug in some driver or maybe some stale configuration from F17?

When booting with latest kernel (3.8.12-100.fc17.x86_64) fedora stops booting and drops to the emergency shell. But if if I choose not to enter into the emergency shell, the boot process continues.

Here are the last lines in the console prior to droping to the emergency shell:

The first time I saw this happening was when restarting to run the fedup-dracut upgrade process. It was an an upgrade from Fedora 17 to 18.

I believe this might have a very easy fix, but I don't know where to look.

Try installing the epson-inkjet-printer-escpr package with:

sudo yum install epson-inkjet-printer-escpr

Unplug your printer, restart fedora and plug your printer. Check if the printer was detected and the driver is present.

Every time Fedora installs a new kernel and VirtualBox stops working, this is the only package I need to install: kmod-VirtualBox. It always depends on the latest installed kernel version. That way is easier than looking for a specific version of kmod-VirtualBox.

Don't forget to restart your system or run /etc/sysconfig/modules/VirtualBox.modules as others have already pointed out.

It depends on the size of your hard disk. But first, make a backup.

Then I'd resize / to make room for a new partition, format it and mount it as /home2, Then copy my files to /home2/myuser. Cleanup the old /home and configure /etc/fstab to mount the new partition as /home.

You can do all that just before reinstalling. You'll fell more confortable next time you install Fedora.

There has been some hype about lightworks that would push a linux version of the software.

You need to provide the printer model and make. If you don't provide that information you probably won't get any good answer.

Also, be prepared to do some geeky things with the package manager and edit files with weird names.

The yum command is telling you that chrome is already installed and the package you want to install doesn't contain any updates. So there's nothing to do.

Try to launch chrome directly from the gnome-terminal and take note of the printed errors, if any. The command name is: google-chrome

Also, you can use the system monitor to check whether there is any chrome process that is stuck because of some bug or something like that. If there are google-chrome processes running in your computer, kill them and then try to launch google-chrome from the terminal and take note of the printed errors and warnings, if any.

What I'd do is: hit ctrl+alt+f1 to see if there was any problem logged in the screen during boot process. More stuff can be done in order to troubleshoot, but it depends on whether you enjoy to tinker with the OS or just want the thingy up and running without going into too much detail.

This is the hard way:

• Look at ~/.xsession-errors and try to spot some errors in some package.
• Look at the yum history and see if you can re-install deleted packages. (sudo yum history).
