2017-10-06 13:39:05 -0600 commented question Fedora 26 hangs on Shutdown

tlp sounds interesting, not sure if I have enough command line knowledge to use it though.

2017-10-06 13:36:25 -0600 answered a question Fedora 26 hangs on Shutdown

The issue has been resolved by doing all updates via the fedora standard GUI "Software" application. I connected the laptop to power and ran the updates and selected restart. Had to manually shut down with power button but when the computer rebooted it updated BIOS and firmware automatically.

I thought my computer was up to date as I had made sure fedora was up to date via command line, but I see understand now the error in this thinking.

Any further information I can provide or things to try to facilitate shutting down without holding the physical power button to turn off each time? I'm curious if this is bad for the hardware?

2017-10-03 15:46:02 -0600 asked a question Fedora 26 hangs on Shutdown

Hi guys,

New to Fedora and having an issue with shutdown. My Dell XPS 13 9350 was quick to boot up and power off with windows 10 but hangs on the grey screen with Fedora logo until the battery dies when I shutdown from GUI.

I pressed ESC at this screen after doing some searching online and saw the message "A stop job is running for firewalld - dynamic firewall daemon" followed by a second counter. Reading some other answers on this forum I added the below to /usr/lib/firewalld/services/cockpit.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<service>
  <!-- This is a firewalld service definition for Cockpit -->
  <short>Cockpit</short>
  <description>Cockpit lets you access and configure your server remotely.</description>
  <port protocol="tcp" port="9090"/>
</service>

this stopped the firewall d message and took me directly to another screen with a bunch of messages (same screen as when the stop job timer ran out). Last 20 lines of the journal prior to the previous shutdown attempt:

[~]$ journalctl --since $(journalctl --list-boots | tail -n 2 | head -n 1 | awk '{print $4}') | tail -n 20

Hey Guys,

New to linux and have had Fedora and Windows 10 set up as a dual boot on my Dell XPS 13. Really like Fedora and want to get rid of all the Windows partitions to maximize available space on my 128GB SSD.

Can I delete all partitions from the Fedora "Disks" utility and then somehow expand the 37GB Fedora partition to fill the whole HD? I'm concerned about deleting too much and not being able to boot up!

My Disks:

2017-09-20 12:57:58 -0600 commented question Display issues with Fedora 26

Issue is fixed, thanks guys! Didn't notice the gear icon to select xorg at startup until you sent that link. I ran updates and selected xorg at startup and it works now!

2017-09-18 19:24:35 -0600 commented question Display issues with Fedora 26

Thanks ozeszty there are errors coming up with dmesg but they are the same when I run it with the adapter unplugged. Should I post the full return here?

steveebey73742 after searching online it looks like I should be able to select xorg at login but I can't seem to find that option.

tried using the below to switch to xorg:

gdbus call --system --dest org.freedesktop.Accounts --object-path /org/freedesktop/Accounts/User"$(id -u)" --method org.freedesktop.Accounts.User.SetXSession "gnome-xorg"

not sure if it worked but the monitor issue is the same.

Apologies for my tech illiteracy!
