2018-01-11 15:44:38 -0600 commented question How fix my damaged mp4 video?

The files may just need to be remuxed. Try ffmpeg -i <original file> -c:v copy -c:a copy <new file>.mp4 this will copy the video & audio streams (without re-encoding them) into a new mp4 file.

2018-01-11 15:40:32 -0600 asked a question how to update microcode

I'm running Fedora 27 with Intel i3-6100 CPU. I've seen a couple updates to the microcode_ctl package over the past weeks, however I'm unsure if a) these are applicable to my CPU b) whether they have been applied successfully

How do I check?

Dmesg shows this:

~$ dmesg | grep microcode
[ 0.000000] microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0xc2, date = 2017-11-16
[ 0.504514] microcode: sig=0x506e3, pf=0x2, revision=0xc2
[ 0.504590] microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.2.

In journalctl output, the same lines appear on Jan 02, Jan 06 which makes me think no new microcode has been applied.

2017-04-22 00:05:43 -0600 asked a question flite text-to-speech not producing audio output

How to get flite text-to-speech utility play audio on Fedora 25? I try running it like this:

flite -t "blah blah"

but no audio is heard. If I pass the -l option (loop audio), then open the sound mixer, I see ALSA plug-in [flite] under the 'Applications' tab...but no audio output!

I can get flite to output a wav file then play that back, but I'd prefer it played directly.

2017-02-21 00:29:51 -0600 commented answer Why are only some updates drpm?

Packages having delta rpms continues to be very hit and miss. Today's updates - 16 packages in total of which only 8 were delta rpms: https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste...

Most likely Fedora doesn't come with a driver for that device. You may need to install the driver manually using the Linux driver from the vendor website: https://www.broadcom.com

2017-01-15 16:49:51 -0600 asked a question Why are only some updates drpm?

Using Fedora 25 where DNF has deltarpm enabled by default, I see only some updates being supplied as delta RPM. For example, this morning the following updates were applied:

Jan 16 07:52:36 INFO Installed: kernel-core-4.9.3-200.fc25.x86_64
Jan 16 07:52:41 INFO Installed: kernel-modules-4.9.3-200.fc25.x86_64

Jan 16 07:52:46 INFO Upgraded: mediawriter-4.0.8-0.fc25.x86_64
Jan 16 07:52:47 INFO Upgraded: kernel-headers-4.9.3-200.fc25.x86_64

Jan 16 07:52:49 INFO Upgraded: doxygen-1:1.8.13-1.fc25.x86_64

Out of those, only hplip-common was a drpm!?

Why aren't all updates drpm? Does it depend on the mirror I use?
