2015-04-05 09:14:09 -0500 asked a question How do I change background in Fedora 17

Yes, I know this seems like a simple question but here's the problem. After a disk failure yesterday, I updated my kernel to 3.9.10-100.fc17.x86_64, (yes, still running Fedora 17). I remote in to that machine via VNC. When I did this after the update, I found that my remote desktop was completely reset with some wall paper. I tried to use the system settings to change the background to a solid color but nothing would actually change. Then I killed the vncserver and recreated it as root (sigh) user. When I remote connected as root, I was able to change the background with no problems. Anyone know what might be wrong?
