no bootloader, no grub, no bootable disk

Hi, I am new to Fedora, so apologies for this simple question but I am getting frustrated with the very basics of the installation.

I downloaded the fedora DVD iso (Fedora-16-i686-Live-Desktop.iso) and created a live usb install using liveusb-creator (3.11.6). This allows me to boot into a linux environment directly from the USB but I wanted the installation on my hard drive, so I ran the 'Install to Hard Drive' application. This sucessfully loaded. I used the automatic partitrion recommendations and asked the bootloader to be installed on /dev/sda. So far, so good! Just needed to reboot to start my new system! However, the computer restarts and issues the warning 'No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key'.

What am I doing wrong? This is the only OS I want to install on my old Intel Duo Core laptop. I have a 160GB HD and 2MB RAM, so the hardware should be plenty. The HD is showing as healthy when I examine it from within Fedora USB system and using SystemRescueCD.

Much appreciation to anyone who can point me in the correct direction.
