Increased LVM in VMware is not responding how it should?

I am using Fedora 20 Scientific KDE on VMware and it was low on memory which I extended by increasing the disk space from vmware first, followed up by resizing using gparted and finally tried to make fedora 'see' the extended space by lvm extend, but I am still stuck with the same situation as I began wit. I am pretty sure this would have been answered before, but I couldn't really find a search string that could lead me to the resolution of this problem in community.

As it can be seen in the linked image my LVM has 23.5 Gb available but I cannot install a new program or update through yum which reports that at minimum of 2 Gb and change space is needed, like how it shows in properties of root. So basic question being now how do I extend root?
