fedora 19 usb ethernet ASIX AX88179

I have usb several ethernet devices with Fedora in the past that were built upon the ASIX AX88179 chipset. Now Fedora 19 includes the driver for this device AX88_179.ko. The problem is the included driver is a broken one. When the driver was on Asix website it worked fine at a particular version. All of a sudden maybe 6 months ago the new versions of the driver started to behave as if packetloss from a user perspective was severe. The driver appears to work otherwise. A ping to a close known good server would result in one or every two packets appearing to be lost. It appears to work on the surface, but is broken enough to be unusable. The fix in the past was to build and load and older version of the driver which I had on hard drive. To make a long story short, I am working on a new machine have no access to the old drivers and the Asix website is gone. This is is a problem because this is the common USB3 chipset and many devices are using this chipset. I am seeing the identical broken behavior on the SIIG hub and the Startech dongle. How can I approach this issue to get it resolved.
