root password does not work when using "su" in the shell or installing software as a normal user

Hi there,

I am quite fond of Fedora but I am facing the following problem: Whenever I try to use the "su" or "sudo" command in the shell or whenever i try to perform an action which requires admin rights, (like installing software) the system won't accept my root password, but to register as "root" right at the beginning, using the same password, works. That is kind of funny. And is hindering me installing "eclipse" and so on. Please help. Thanks in advance. Josef
