Is there a Fedora 16 fix yet for the Dell Inspiron 1545 wireless driver problem? I installed Ubuntu 11 and it updated the driver and fixed the problem in 5 minutes. I have downloaded the Broadcomm driver package but am unable to get it to build in Fedora. Any instructions would be appreciated. I am new to linux but enjoy the learning experience.

Thank you.

  1. Confirm you have a broadcom package by reading the output from the command 'lspci'

  2. If you DO have a broadcom NIC, it's not working because Fedora can't distribute non-free drivers for it. It's in the rpmfusion repo, however: start here

  3. After configuring the repo, look for a broadcom package with the command 'yum search broadcom'

  4. Install the package: su -c 'yum install broadcom-wl' (just a hunch that this is the right one for you!)

  5. Reboot, OR load the driver with su -c 'modprobe broadcom-wl'
