It's not usually a good idea to edit /boot/grub2/grub.cfg by hand. If you do, your changes will be lost next time your kernel is upgraded by yum or rpm.

If you edit /etc/default/grub, your changes will be incorporated into grub.cfg every time the kernel is upgraded.

To immediately apply any changes you made to /etc/default/grub, you can run as root:

grub2-mkconfig > /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

'info grub2' is well-written and fairly comprehensive.

Fedora 16 uses GRUB2 and the location of the configuration is at /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
