fedora 25 no longer recognizes android via USB

In Fedora 22 through 24, I could connect an Android and Fedora would immediately and automatically recognize it and mount it and give a Gnome notification which I could click on and open a Nautilus view of the file system. It was then trivial to copy files between.

Since upgrading to Fedora 25, this capability seems to have been lost. I tried the suggestions from this question but no improvement.

In an unusual move to make it work, I enabled Android's media server and all its options to see if I could see any notification. dmesg does not show any new entries when I plug in and disconnect the Android.

dnf did not readily want to install gvfs saying Skipping packages with conflicts and listing ten gvfs packages. Per its suggestion, I "forced" installing with

# dnf install --best --allowerasing gvfs-mtp

Just out of interest, have you loaded the "driver" to view SDCARDS ? try " dnf install fuse-exfat " Worked for me

I have F25 and it recognises my phone okay. But it might depend on how you have the device itself set up? I went to device settings and ensured that it connects via "MTP", which it didn't used to. So your problem might lie at the device end rather than with Fedora/Gnome

@Orriginal: dnf says package fuse-exfat-1.2.4-1.fc25.x86_64 is already installed,

@thingummybob: Well, one thing I have changed on my Android since it worked was to enable "developer mode". Maybe that is causing a conflict? Let me check.

yes, I used that setting at one point. I think it's particular to the device in terms of how/whether it switches when tethered but suspect that's where your problem lies

I resolved this by re-installing Fedora 24. All of my major usability issues went away.

I have since moved to Fedora 27.
