Hi! I'm trying to capture video of my desktop (with sound), and I've tried using a variety of video recording software, and I get a blank image with just my pointer icon showing. I don't really know why this is. I'm using fedora 25 and version 3.22.2 of gnome. My graphics card is intel hd graphics 530 (skylake gt2)/gallium 0.4 on NV117. Thanks for your help!

I have the exact same problem. Running F25 and all screen cast attempts fail (recordmydesktop, simplescreenrecorder, vokoscreen etc) except for the screen recording software that comes native with F25 and gnome shell. Same as you, only pointer is recorded with a black screen during playback. I may consider downgrading to F24 if this cannot be resolved shortly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly the same here... F25, OBS-studio, or gstreamer (addin remote=1 or not), but I can capture a window app. Weird problem.

It seems that the problem comes from gstreamer. Check this:

gst-launch-1.0 ximagesrc remote=1 ! videoconvert ! ximagesink

You'll see your cursor in a black window.

Have you guys tried a Xorg session instead of Wayland? Downgrading seems weird since soon F24 will not be supported anymore.

Fedora 25 launches Gnome with Wayland display server by default. So, you can login on Gnome using Xorg and everything seems to work great. At the login scree, after having selected your user, click on the gear to display a menu to select "Gnome on Xorg".

I also retried some gst-launch-1.0 operations. It seems that ximagesrc gstreamer pad is the problem. Appending "use-damage=0" unlocks mouse cursor inside the captured video, but it's still black. The only solution, right now, is to use Xorg instead of Wayland.

I'm checking how the Gnome CTRL+ALT+Shift+R can record video without that problem.

I'm trying to find where I should open a bug report. Gnome ? Gstreamer ? Fedora ?... it seems that we (fedora users) are the only one to have that problem with Wayland and GST.

Thanks for the tip. Yes, switching to xorg during login works fine. Did a quick screen capture and it worked like a charm. Not sure where to turn to solve for Wayland issue tho.

All I can say is thank goodness for the Fedora forums. I've been going manic over this problem for ages. Been using Fedora for nearly two years now with no real complaints until now.

Maybe (hopefully) the developers could have a real look at this in the future releases of Fedora. Screen recording has almost become an everyday task for many. Apart from that, still loving fedora

Just use Xorg until this is implemented for Wayland and done.
