After upgrading to Fedora 25 Workstation: KDE Panels, Widget and Desktop not visible. However, assuming the same location of the icons and widget before still visible, I can click and launch the shortcut (for shortcuts in the Desktop folder). Strangely, I'm using Plasma theme, but the file explorer is GNOME? 3 workspaces are still there (can click on 'invisible' spacer; or roll wheel on mouse to change between)

I do not know how to search or had succeeded fixing this problem. Tried also to search for resetting KDE, KDM, etc. Still the panels, widget, etc. remains not visible.

Please post some information, about the video hardware. Are you seeing any splash screens, or login screens?

Having the same problem here, only I am using Gnome. With some (not all) software (example: Banshee) the icons used in the program show up as black squares, where you expect an image or icon. Also the gnome extention "Top Icons" makes room for the icons but the images aren't loaded. Checking the logs gives the following errors: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: gr: DATA_ERROR 00000004 [INVALID_VALUE] ch 7 [003f962000 Xwayland[1898]] subc 0 class 9097 mthd 2704 data 02c2ffe0 This started to happen after i updated today (14dec), my hardware: GF106 running nouveau (driver and modules)

HCBD << Thanks for sharing. For me, I cannot change to gnome when I logon. It just prompt an error and kicks me out and back to the sign on screen. Furthermore, I've tried selecting the F24 kernel from Grub menu, and it just does not logon. Hangs with a blinking cursor (TTY screen).

Observations: 1. Boot to logon screen (KDM signon screen) is okay. 2. When signon (Plasma selected), the screen jumps to tty mode, with blinking cursor. Does not show the usual task/service running status. 3. Then the desktop pops up with wallpaper and a pointer icon. The folder on the desktop is not visible, the entire panel (with clock, spacer, app launcher, etc.) is not visible. 4. However, when I move the pointer to where widgets are suppose to be and click, eg. Icon to open Home Folder, the Konquer appears with the home folder opened. The Window is not KDE, but gnome.

This issued had been resolved for me. Comments: 1. I believe it is the X11.org library updates. I saw an update on Nvidia today. After this update completed, and my machine rebooted to the kernel.x86_64 - 4.8.14-300.fc25, everything that were "invisible" appeared. 2. There had been extra panels. When everything were "invisible", I still can popup a menu and I've tried manually adding Panels (as advised, similar problem after upgrade); They all re-appeared. 3. (Not exactly sure) I recall seeing a X11 update for Nouveau library last week. Rebooted my machine after the update, still the panels were "invisible".

Conclude: I can be sure that this problem is a driver issue ( X11.org library), and it is resolved with the latest X11.org library updates for Nvidia.

This solved the issue for me (temporary).

I'm running the latest Gnome with the Nouveau driver/modules on a GF106 nvidia chip (gts-450)

Downgrade the following packages if they are present on your system. Mesa3D packages with the version 13.0.2 (downgrade to version 12.0.3) (it seems a bug has made its way in there):

Commandline commands (run as root):

~ dnf downgrade --allowerasing mesa-libwayland-egl
~ dnf downgrade --allowerasing mesa-libgbm
~ dnf downgrade --allowerasing mesa-dri-drivers
~ dnf downgrade --allowerasing mesa-libEGL
~ dnf downgrade --allowerasing mesa-libGL
~ dnf downgrade --allowerasing mesa-libxatracker

& reboot Fedora

Do not upgrade any mesa package if the versionnumber of the update is 13.0.2; wait for a higher number and try again.

Hope this solves it for you.
