I have to switch between AHCI and Raid ON

I am trying to install linux since 2 days after lots of trial and error. I bought a new XPS 13 9360 FHD and wanted to make a Dualboot windows 10 and fedora 24. I did a live-usb .iso file according to the installguide on fedora and also verfiyed the checksum. Just now everything worked after I did the following:

So first I did a clean install of windows 10 home and deleted all the recovery partitions and made one on an USB. Then I allocated space in the disk manager, about 60 GB for fedora. I restarted the computer, went into Bios and turned off Secure Boot, turned from Raid to AHCI Mode to boot from fedora and install it. It did fine, I also did dnf update. But now the problem is, I can't get into Windows when the Bios is still in AHCI Mode and if I change it to Raid, then I can't get into fedora because it always enters emergency mode and it gives the following warnings among many others:/dev/fedora/root, /dev/fedora/swap and /dev-mapper/fedora-root do not exist. What is the problem? what could I have done wrong?

You have essentially answered your own question. You installed Windows while having the BIOS configured to interact with the disk as a RAID device, then you reconfigured the BIOS to interact with the disk using AHCI and installed Fedora.

These are two VERY different disk interface modes attached to the same physical disk, they can't be used concurrently or as an alternative mode to access the other disk configuration - hence the need to switch between them when accessing the two different operating systems. You need to use RAID or AHCI for both operating systems.

Unfortunately, you will most likely need to re-install one of the operating systems (most likely Fedora) while the BIOS is set to the same disk access mode as the other operating system.

Hi,

I have just installed fedora 28 on a Dell XPS 13 2018 solde with Windows 10. I reduced Windows partition to installation fedora.

Windows vas bien installed n'y Dell on SATA raid mode and I Nevers successed tout install fedora un this mode. I changed SATA mode to ahci, I installed fedora and nos, each time I santé to change OS, I have to change SATA mode. I dont want to reinstall Windows, but I think I'll do to solve this trouble.

Thanks for this post, because before, I did not understood why I coule not install à linux distro.
