Hello All,

I have Fedora 2.6.23.1-42.fc8 GNU GRUB version 0.97 At boot time when I press arrow keys I get the screen wherein it prompts 'p' to enter a password to unlock the next set of features. Unfortunately I lost that password as well as the root password. How do I bypass this, is there any way. Please let me know, many thanks in advance.

Thanks & Regards, sanjeev

If you only need the data on the hard-disks, go download the latest Fedora and burn it to CD or create a bootable USB-stick.

  1. Then boot from this CD/USB-stick and save your data (copy it to another place, e.g. an external hard-disk).
  2. Or just reinstall this new Fedora over the old one without formatting, so that no personal data gets lost.
  3. Reinstall Grub without password. This can be done from the CD/USB-stick with the beautiful new Fedora on it. And then reset your root password.

  1. Install a supported version of Fedora
  2. Select your desired passwords during installation
  3. Enjoy!
