With samba your computer can be integrated on a network of windows machines, those machines cannot tell the difference in regard of shared files and folders (and printers), so it might be your best option. It can be used even if you don't have windows in your network. I'd go for samba, somehow easier to setup than nfs and your only option if you have windows.
